Many people start off the new year searching around for crash diets that work.  Everyone wants to lose weight as quickly as possible – it’s understandable. But life is rarely that simple. Do crash diets really work at all?

Are Crash Diets Too Good To Be True?

Although there may be crash diets that work to an extent, most are setting you up for failure right away. Why? Because they make claims that are too good to be true. Claims that you won’t be able to meet, leading only to failure.

Adding to this, crash diets usually target some foods as “good” and others as “bad”. As an effect, this forces you to cut out whole food groups from your diet. Successful weight loss really isn’t about cutting out whole groups of food: it should be about eating in moderation and learning to control the number of calories you’re taking in every day.

When Can Crash Diets Work?

There can be times when you may be able to get crash diets to work. You have to be committed, and you have to target the types of diets that promote healthy weight loss. No more diets that drop whole food groups – rather, pick diets that are based around balanced food groups and eliminate over-eating and sugary foods.

Regretfully, it’s unlikely that crash dieting is going to bring about long-term results. In theory it may be able to, but in reality most of us will simply put the weight back on faster than we let it go. Just think about how difficult it’ll be to stick to a crash diet when it comes to meals out, parties and holidays! You’ll be left feeling deflated either way.

Safe And Healthy Weight Loss

Instead of searching for crash diets that work, you’ll do much better losing weight the right way. This means looking at your diet and exercise in total, and looking to make permanent changes rather than going on a two-week dieting binge. This means that results may not be seen as quickly, but they’ll be much more long lasting and effective over the long term.

Some of the good ideas that work better than searching for crash diets that work include removing any tempting foods from your house, drinking lots of water throughout the day, eating more fruit and vegetable to fill you up, and making sure you don’t skip any meals. Remember you will have to spend some time on your diet to see long lasting results!
