Custom Earplugs
’m sure most of us have experience with earplugs – most commonly, cheap, foam drugstore earplugs that muffle everything and stick out of your ears in a rather alarming looking manner…
But fear not – custom ear plugs exist, and they excel both in performance and comfort.
What are custom ear plugs, and how are they made? I’ll tell you – I speak from experience, having gotten a pair made a few years ago – and I tell you this: when you’re dealing with tinnitus, you want to protect your hearing – especially the tinnitus was caused by exposure to loud noise, like it was for me. Also, tinnitus can be accompanied by hyperacusis, which is an oversensitivity to certain frequencies; some sounds actually hurt, and having a good pair of earplugs was like being given a gift from heaven, no doubt.
As the name implies, custom ear plugs are ear plugs which are molded to your ears and your ears alone. No two pairs are the same; even though there are good, off the shelf, one size fits all or one size fits most ear plugs available, nothing beats custom. Getting a pair begins with assessing your needs, and a trip to an audiologist or hearing center; I got mine made at ListenUP! Canada (with whom I have no affiliation; I’m just a satisfied customer – but you’ll get excellent results with most hearing centers and qualified audiologists).
