Essential Lavender Oil Comes Up Trumps in Aromatherapy

We can all instantly recognise the wonderful scent of lavender that has been used for generations, but this enlightening frangrance is not the only property for which it should be associated.

Lavender is derived from a bushy shrub with tiny flowers. There are many varieties, but the most popular is Lavandula angustifolia.
The essential oil produced from its early flowers is considered as the finest for aromatherapy, and it is considered a safe herb reknowned forcreating a pacifying or sedative effect.

The first recorded cultivation of Lavender was found to be by ancient Egyptians who held it in high regard, using it to produce calming and healing balms and perfume.
It was also used by the Egyptians as a balm for mummification and the perfume has been found in tombs, including that of Tutankhamen.

Lavender’s therapeutic and anti fungal qualities, have made it a favourite choice for skin care. It has been considered effective for numerous body conditions from acne to wrinkles and blemishes. When using lavender essential oil for skin problems issues like eczema and psoriasis, aromatherapists advocate adding  a few drops of lavender oil to a base carrier oil such as a massage oil. It is wise however to check that the carrier oil is a natural product before applying it as a lotion to moisturise the body.

Another popular use for lavender oil is to ad a few drops to atepid bath which is a great tension reliever. I am also aware of it being used to repell insectssuch as mosquitoes by rubbing it on the body.

Lavender alsopossesses a soothingscent which makes it a fantastic way to relieve and reduce headaches, symptoms of depression, tension, anxiety, and stress. It provides you with a better sleep quality and is a popular treatment for sleep disorder.

Essential oil of lavender is also suggested as a remedy to relieve elevated blood pressure. Lavender oils are also utilized to improve the health of the respiratory system, and to relieve the symptoms of influenza, asthma and sore throats. I have personally tried thefollowing respiratory aromatherapy treatment for chest and sinus congestion. Its simply made from equal parts of lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus oils. Just bring a small quantity of water to boil then add those oils and inhale for simple pleasant relief.
