We all want to be as healthy as we can be but we do not always have time that we need to get in all of the exercise that is required to be so. This is actually why some health professionals are advocating the ten thousand step method. The ten thousand step method is an idea that says all you need to try and do to increase your health is to walk at least ten thousand steps every day–this way you won’t have to work out as intensely at the gym. Walking is fantastic physical exercise and really low impact. How often have you over heard a doctor say “just a single walk around the block helps your health”?

Obviously walking ten thousand steps every day certainly will not be simple. That’s a lot of steps to take! The good news is that you probably already take the majority of those steps each day already and don’t know it yet. All you need to do is learn how to add in a couple or few thousand additional steps to reach this goal. So how can you do that without feeling just like you’re spending the entire day walking about?

Increasing your step count can be achieved easily using these obvious methods. One classic example of this can be climbing the stairs instead of taking an elevator or escalator. You may also decide to park far from the entry way of the store or the mall. Keep your car in one spot and walk your bags and boxes out to the car once you finish shopping in each store instead of just carrying more and more things with you as you run your errands and go shopping. Taking public transit can also improve your step count as you need to walk to your bus or train stop and then back home instead of just walking to your car. And, obviously, getting a simple walk each day is a great way to increase your step count.

There are also some less obvious methods to raise the amount of steps you take each day. Organize a market shopping list differently. Lots of folks organize their lists based on the aisles in their stores. Organize your own list in different types such as dairy, meat, produce, snacks, etc. Simply look straight down the list from here. You may possibly end up criss crossing the store a few times but it’s a fantastic way to raise your step count. Instead of positioning your mailbox inside your entry way or installing it in a wall of your home, put it out by the curb on a post. This may put a minimum of one or two dozen steps to your count while you check the mail each day.

Increasing your step count can be carried out in several ways. As you grow to be familiar with walking 10,000 steps each day you’ll think of plenty of creative ways to get to that number. Thankfully, every single step you take–whether it’s walking toward the refrigerator or jogging on a treadmill, counts toward your end step count goal. Try to have fun with your project!
