We all want to be as healthful as we are able to be but we do not always have time that we need to get in all of the exercise that is required to be so. This is actually why some health specialists are advocating the ten thousand step method. The plan is that you take at least ten thousand steps each day (walking) and that will help you get very healthy and reduce the time that is required for exercise. Walking is a fantastic and low impacting exercise. How often have you noticed a physician say “just a single walk around the block helps your health”?
Obviously, getting in ten thousand steps day after day will likely be challenging. That’s a lot of of steps to take! The good news is that you’re already probably taking ten thousand steps everyday without knowing it. What you might want to do is learn how to include a few more thousand steps to get to the goal. So how do you accomplish that without resorting to simply walking back and forth for hours on end?
There are a lot of obvious things that can be done to take more steps. Taking the steps instead of riding the elevator is a basic example of this. You could also choose to park a long way away from the doorway of the store or the mall. To further this strategy, you can also stay parked in one spot and walk your shopping bags out to the car as you accumulate them-instead of carting them all over the shopping center as you run your errands. Using public transportation is great for raising your step count since you have to walk to the bus stop and back instead of just to and from the car. Obviously, just taking a short walk each day is also wise.
You could also increase the amount of steps you take by using some less than evident methods. Set up a grocery grocery list differently. Lots of folks plan their lists based on the aisles within their stores. Instead, plan your list in unique categories like produce, dairy and meat. Then get each and every item in the order that it is detailed on your list. Sure you’ll wind up running back and forth through the store however it can be great for taking a lot more steps every day. Instead of owning a mail box as part of your door or attached to your house, mount it on a post close to the curb. This is the reason why the simple act of checking the mailbox can create a few dozen steps each day.
Increasing your step count can be done in several ways. As you get used to the idea of walking 10,000 steps a day you’ll think of great ways to reach this goal faster. The greatest thing with this idea is that every single step you take throughout the day counts toward your goal whether they are on treadmills or to the bathroom and back. Have fun with it!
