Cardiac ArrestCardiac arrest may be the deadliest of all medical conditions known to man. This is not a disease in itself, but can come about as the result of various heart diseases or other medical conditions. The best way you can defend against cardiac arrest is by leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding common risk factors. Despite the fact that many symptoms of cardiac arrest are quite subtle these are some of the more obvious signs you might want to watch out for.

While cardiac arrest sometimes happens to people for no apparent reason, in the majority of cases it occurs when there is already a known heart problem. People who have already experienced one heart attack or exhibit risk factors like high blood pressure and other heart problems are much more likely to have a heart attack. Medication and careful medical attention can further reduce those risks. You can lower your risks of cardiac arrest greatly by making lifestyle changes and taking medications. Despite common misconceptions, heart disease isn’t always the main cause of cardiac arrest. It isn’t medical conditions alone that cause cardiac arrest but can also be the results of some accidents and trauma. Some things like extreme cold, choking, and electrocution can lead to cardiac arrest. Obviously, if someone has suffered any of these problems, help should be called, but in the case of cardiac arrest, they need immediate help or death will quickly occur. If you cannot detect a pulse then the person needs CPR or a defibrillator without delay. When a person is having cardiac arrest, either of these may save that life.

Many times, a family history of cardiac arrest is the only risk factor people will have. Your risk of a heart attack is greatly increased if one or more members of your family have some sort of heart abnormality or have gone into cardiac arrest. This doesn’t mean you will necessarily have this happen, as you can take many steps to protect your health, but it does mean you should have a doctor check your heart regularly for warning signs if people in your family have had heart troubles. If you have a family history of heart problems, for example, your doctor may suggest certain medications to reduce your chances of cardiac arrest. Any warning symptoms of cardiac arrest are a reason for immediate emergency care as cardiac arrest is extremely dangerous. Living as healthily as possible will help prevent cardiac arrest even though predicting when it could happen isn’t possible. That’s why it’s so important to watch for the warning signs just discussed.
