Pregnant Women – These Signs Indicate It May Be Time to Stop Working Out
Filed under General Health
Working out while you are pregnant can be very beneficial but it is very important to always keep the safety of your baby in mind. As a result, you need to be able to recognize when to stop working out if you push yourself too much.
There are a number of conditions that should keep you away from exercise, regardless of how healthy you were before you got pregnant. Here is a list of some conditions:
Pre-term rupture of placenta membranes
Pregnancy Induced hypertension
Incompetent cervix
Persistent bleeding in 2nd or 3rd trimester
Pre-term labor
If while working out, you experience any of the following symptoms while stop exercising and get medical attention immediately:
Bleeding, pain of any kind, dizziness, breathing difficulty, pain in the chest, feeling faint, headache, leaking amniotic fluid, weakness in muscles, having trouble walking, contractions, and calves swelling.
A couple other key things to note. First of all, if you did not work workout regularly before your were pregnant, then starting during the first trimester would be a mistake. If you really want to do some form of exercise, then make sure it is very light such as walking. The second trimester is when you can start to consider doing more intensive exercise. The reason is that your morning sickness should be reduced if not gone and you should also start to feel more energetic. Therefore, your body will be more ready for the physical demands of a workout program.
Whatever you decide, it is highly recommended that you speak with your doctor before starting an exercise program and they may make specific recommendations and will be familiar with any additional risks you may face.
