Senior Fitness Camp training is paced the same way as any other exercise population.
That is by starting the Senior Fitness Camp at the level of the participants and progressing from that baseline. After establishing baseline exercise performance, the Senior Fitness Camp results can be proven to the participants to further personal goal setting.
Most older adults join a Senior Fitness Camp with a goal to lose weight.
Shortly afterward, determination of clear-cut short and long-term goals will accelerate progress. Senior Fitness Camp goals must include balance training, strength and cardio conditioning.
Personal goal attainment at the Senior Fitness Camp may make it possible to qualify for medical release from certain medications. Many senior prescriptions are the cause of side effects such as weight gain, dizziness, and loss of equilibrium. Fall prevention and the ability to get down on the floor with grandchildren and be able to get back up again without assistance is another goal driven need.
Senior Fitness Camp Training Regimen
Traveling drills for Agility and Stability working both right and left in front and sidestepping patterns.
Sitting and standing Squat Work from seated chair level then progressing from assisted to hands-free movement. Included will be split-stance foot placements to mimic functional work, as well as, lifting and carrying motions.
Abdominal Strengthening is done by Seated side reaches, seated lean backs; lying on back with short-range reaching movements at different angles to build core body strength. Movements progress from the floor holding onto stable furniture at various levels before going hands-free. Inflated balls are utilized for seated and recline progression.
Single-sided training of the body through non-dominant movement patterns to promote balanced strength symmetry.
Senior Fitness Camp participants learn to recognize self-defeating fears and cancel them before they cause falls. Positive self-talk builds physical confidence and strength of will. The Senior Fitness Camp participant will practice mental disciplines for overcoming fear of falling.
