Vasectomy Reversal Surgery – Changing Your Mind About Kids Is Absolutely Not That Unusual

There are approximately one half million vasectomies in the U.S. every year. But out of that number, around twenty five thousand wish to have a vasectomy reversal at some point.  This is in addition to the men who had the surgery treatment before and have now changed their minds.

A vasectomy is carried out by cutting the tubes which carry sperm from the testicles.  By performing this procedure it blocks the movement of sperm and, hence helps prevent pregnancy.  The reversal undoes the original doctor’s handiwork and reconnects the tubing to help facilitate pregnancy and therefore the sperm could again flow from the testicles.

When you elect to go for this vasectomy reversal treatment the degree of success will depend on several factors.  First, and foremost is the practical experience, expertise and proficiency of the micro-surgeon who will be doing the surgery.  But other things come into play, too.  Firstly, is the time it has been since the vasectomy was carried out.  Of course, the shorter the time frame the higher the odds.

Other points to consider concern the person’s age and his routines.  If he is prone to putting on tight boxers this could be one factor for some men.  Also, taking long, warm showers or using a hot spa frequently could cause the rate of success to diminish.

Another important concern is the way the original surgery was performed.  Sometime, a doctor will not only cut the vas deferens, but they will cut out a small section or even cauterize the ends to ensure that it takes and holds for life.  Though this is an excellent security feature it can cause complications for the surgeon who is trying to carry out the vasectomy reversal.

This procedure is very simple and could be performed in the doctor’s clinic within a couple of hours.  It is done strictly on an outpatient basis and there is normally no requirement for anything more than a local anesthesia.  There is a waiting period after a vasectomy reversal before normal activity could resume, but with this being fairly low-priced and carrying a good level of success it is the most sensible alternative to make for the man who has changed his mind and now wants to be a parent again playing with his child and enjoying a kid’s tricycle or even baby dolls again.
